Academics

Joining a sorority in college is a life-changing experience, but garnering an education is the top priority for Kappa. This is why each chapter is expected to maintain academic standards equal to or higher than their university’s or college’s all-sorority GPA. We don’t ask individual members to maintain a certain GPA due to the variances in course loads, but each member is expected to contribute to the overall GPA of the chapter.

If a Kappa struggles academically, we help her through it. The Academic Excellence Committee meets with her to craft an improvement plan using study tactics and time management. We want each sister to leave college with what they came for: a degree.

Joining a sorority in college is a life-changing experience, but garnering an education is the top priority for Kappa. This is why each chapter is expected to maintain academic standards equal to or higher than their university’s or college’s all-sorority GPA. At our Epsilon Psi Chapter, we ask individual members to maintain at least a 2.7 GPA, and if someone is unable to achieve it and struggles academically, we help her through it. The Academic Excellence Committee meets with her to craft an improvement plan using study tactics and time management. We want each sister to leave college with what they came for: a degree.
Currently at UCSB, the all-sorority GPA is consistently higher each quarter than the all-women GPA. We, at Kappa, are able to achieve this goal by a variety of resources offered. Our Academic Excellence Committee has at least one woman from each grade level, making sure that every member, no matter their age, will have someone who they can connect with and rely on. We also have Kappa Mentors, which is comprised of upperclassmen from all different majors. This allows for everybody to have someone they can contact about specific classes, professors, or even general questions about the major itself.
When members receive a 4.0 during a quarter, an academic pearl dangle is given to them to attach to their KKG key pin. This allows the women who go above and beyond academically to be accredited for their hard work. At each chapter meeting, we also recognize members who received a great grade on an assignment for that week.
Our main goal is to support all Kappas with the support and means necessary to succeed in their chosen career field. Here at UCSB, we place a high importance on #Kappademics and want all of our members to be #KKGeniuses!
