Academics
Joining a sorority in college is a life-changing experience, but garnering an education is the top priority for Kappa. This is why each chapter is expected to maintain academic standards equal to or higher than their university’s or college’s all-sorority GPA. Additionally, each chapter establishes a GPA requirement for active members.
If a Kappa struggles academically, we help her through it. The Academic Excellence Team meets with her to craft an improvement plan using study tactics and time management. We want each sister to leave college with what they came for: a degree.
Joining a sorority in college is a life-changing experience, but garnering an education is the top priority for Kappa. We are lucky enough to attend such a prestigious school where the academics are beneficially challenging. Sororities at UCSB are expected to maintain academic standards equal to or higher than the university’s average GPA. With that being said, Kappa repeatedly maintains a GPA higher than the average university-wide GPA.
If a Kappa struggles academically, we help her with the support of our Academic Excellence Committee. The Academic Excellence Committee is a group of Kappa sisters who aid our members by providing them with academic assistance such as organizing study groups, helping with time management, and even sending positive messages during midterms and finals. Kappa wants our sisters to not only get their degree, but go above and beyond in their academic pursuits.
Kappa also provides its members with many other resources for academic success. We hold weekly study hours, where members can study with their friends and classmates in the comfort of the Kappa house. We are also lucky enough to have Peer Mentors, which are upperclassmen from a variety of different majors who are available and willing to help younger members by giving them advice on specific courses, tutoring, and even helping them find internships and job opportunities.
Here at Kappa we also like to recognize members who academically succeed. Members who receive a high grade on a challenging assignment are celebrated during chapter meetings with special prizes. In addition, members who receive a 4.0 at the end of the quarter are given an academic pearl dangle to hang from their KKG key pin.
UCSB is a distinguished school and with this comes academic challenges. Our main goal is to support all Kappas with the encouragement and means necessary to succeed in their chosen major and career field. We place a high importance on our academics and hope to foster a community of KKGeniuses.
Loyally,
