New Member Program

The whirlwind of going through Recruitment, being extended a bid and then joining Kappa for life can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Kappa gives our new sisters a warm welcome by extending friendship and mutual support through our new member program.

The new member period is a time to learn about the Fraternity and educate women on the expectations and requirements of being a Kappa. Each new member is given a Big Sister to guide her through this new stage of her life. New members also attend a retreat to foster and develop the new friendships and connections within the chapter.

Joining a sorority can be an overwhelming process (trust me, I know). While the first few weeks as a new member can be some of the most exciting in your time at UCSB, they can also be a big adjustment. My job as New Member Chairman is to help ease your transition into sorority life and prepare you for active membership.

During the new member program, new members will learn about what it means to be a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma by focusing on our seven core values known as our pillars of education. After receiving a bid, new members undergo an 8-week new member period and attend new member meetings on top of weekly chapter meetings. New members will also participate in sisterhood events to foster new friendships within the chapter. At the end of the new member period, new members will receive a big sister to help guide them through their new experiences as sorority women.

Being a member of Kappa has given me friendships that I know will last for the rest of my life. Joining Kappa has shaped my entire college experience and, looking back, I wouldn’t have done it any other way. I feel so fortunate and excited to get to guide all our new members this upcoming year and welcome them to our Kappa family.
