New Member Program
The whirlwind of going through Recruitment, being extended a bid and then joining Kappa for life can be exciting and overwhelming at the same time. Kappa gives our new sisters a warm welcome by extending friendship and mutual support through our new member program.
The new member period is a time to learn about the Fraternity and educate women on the expectations and requirements of being a Kappa. Each new member is given a Big Sister to guide her through this new stage of her life. New members also attend a retreat to foster and develop the new friendships and connections within the chapter.
Going through the recruitment process can be overwhelming, exciting, and so much more, but everyone has the same goal in mind – to find your forever home. The purpose of our new member program is to make sure our new Kappa sisters feel supported as they enter the warm embrace of our chapter.
In this program, new members are introduced to our pillars of education; 7 core values that encompass what it means to be a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. They will be exposed to each aspect of our chapter, including our national philanthropy and our local philanthropy, The Ovarian Cancer Circle. Each member participates in a new member period where they will attend new member integration meetings and complete modules to be fully immersed in our chapter. They will also take part in meaningful sisterhoods to get to know the rest of our chapter, and attend ‘owl pal’ dates to bond with older members and potentially find their big sister. We hope that this program helps new members explore their new role as sorority women.
Kappa has given me my best friends and some of the most incredible experiences I’ve had in college. This sisterhood gives me a sense of home in a large and overwhelming environment, which I will be forever grateful for. My hope is that each new member finds this for themselves and gets to experience the love and friendship that Kappa has to offer. I look forward to helping guide our new members through this process in the upcoming year, and to create a safe, supportive, and friendly introduction to our amazing chapter.
